Catamayo y el río Boquerón

The warm valley of the “city of eternal sun”: sugar cane, bathing spots and the Boquerón river.

  • Vía al aeropuerto

Coming down from Villonaco hill, at about 1,250 metres, the Catamayo valley changes climate: it is semi-arid, averaging around 24 °C, which is why it is called the “city of eternal sun”. Here are the cane fields of the Monterrey sugar mill and Loja’s airport.

The Boquerón river is its best-known bathing spot, ideal for a hot afternoon. From Catamayo you can also continue to San Pedro de la Bendita and the El Cisne sanctuary.
