About 49 km north-west of Loja and 2,723 metres above sea level, the village centre of Chuquiribamba was declared part of the State’s Cultural Heritage in 2013 for its earthen architecture and traditions.
Its streets keep adobe and rammed-earth houses, village bands and the mounted “escaramuzas” of its festivals; nearby there are high lakes and a factory of horchata, Loja’s typical herbal infusion.
We visit it on the potters’ route, together with Cera and Taquil, and on the way to the El Cisne sanctuary.
