In the north of Loja canton, the parish of San Lucas is home to communities of the Kichwa Saraguro people, who celebrate the festivals of the Andean calendar —Pawkar Raymi, Inti Raymi, Kulla Raymi and Kapak Raymi— and care for places such as the Ciudadela ruins and Patonada lake.
Further on, about 64 km from Loja, the town of Saraguro is the heart of this people: on Sundays its square fills with a market of textiles, food, household goods and animals. San Pedro church was built between 1943 and 1963, and in Ñamarín the Baño del Inca waterfall drops more than 60 metres.
Always ask permission before photographing people. We organise the visit with transport and a guide.
