Some 45 kilometres south of Loja, between 1,500 and 1,600 metres above sea level, Vilcabamba enjoys a mild climate. A 1973 magazine report made it famous worldwide as the “Valley of Longevity”, and the reputation of its elders drew travellers from everywhere.
Today people come for the scenery, the quiet square, Yamburara recreational park, walks towards Cerro Mandango —the “sleeping Inca”— and the nearby Podocarpus National Park.
On the way you pass Malacatos, a land of coffee and sugar cane. We organise one- and two-day trips with transport and a guide.
