Zamora, capital of Zamora Chinchipe province, lies about 60 km from Loja: in just over an hour the road drops from the highlands to the rainforest past waterfalls.
On the hillside above town is the Giant Clock of Zamora, with a 30-metre face built in 2004. The Bombuscaro river runs through town; about 3 km away is Copalinga reserve, much loved by birdwatchers, and about 15 minutes away the Bombuscaro sector of Podocarpus National Park, with La Poderosa Waterfall.
Check the state of the Loja–Zamora road before setting out, as it can close after heavy rain. We organise day trips and the Water Route through Yacuambi.
