Villages of north-western Loja: the women potters of Cera and the heritage village of Chuquiribamba.
The north-western corridor of Loja canton keeps crafts and houses that time has not changed. In the neighbourhoods of Cera and Cachipamba, in Taquil parish, women still shape clay pots, jugs and plates by hand, as their mothers taught them.
We have lunch in Taquil and finish in Chuquiribamba, at about 2,700 metres, whose village centre was declared part of Ecuador’s Cultural Heritage in 2013 for its earthen architecture and traditions.
Breakfast at La Campiña restaurant: American style or à la carte with Loja specialities (humitas, tamales, green-plantain bolones).
Visit to the La Aguangora neighbourhood.
Visit to Cera, where clay pottery is made.
Lunch and a walk through Taquil parish.
A walk through the heritage village of Chuquiribamba.
Arrival at El Cardenal, where a cup of Loja coffee and a snack await you.
