Coffee Route: La Trinidad Farm

A day among highland coffee plantations in Malacatos, with a traditional lunch at the farm and viewpoints over the valley.

Southern Loja grows highland arabica coffee in an almost spring-like climate all year round. On this route we visit La Trinidad farm, where you see the crop and the coffee process, and have a traditional lunch at the estate itself.

The day can be shaped in two ways: towards Malacatos, with the coffee plantations and valley viewpoints facing Cerro Mandango, or towards Vilcabamba, with the senior centre and a visit to a small winery. To finish, coffee and bizcochuelos to take home.

Itinerary

  1. 07:30 · Breakfast

    Breakfast of local food at La Campiña restaurant.

  2. 08:30 · Departure to Malacatos

    Drive along the Vilcabamba road to the Malacatos valley, some 31 km from Loja.

  3. 09:30 · Highland coffee at La Trinidad farm

    A tour of La Trinidad farm: growing, harvesting and processing coffee. (Vilcabamba option: visit to the senior centre.)

  4. 13:00 · Lunch at the estate

    Lunch of traditional local food at La Trinidad estate.

  5. 14:00 · Valley viewpoints

    Malacatos sights and views of the valley with Cerro Mandango. (Vilcabamba option: visit to a winery.)

  6. Afternoon · Back to Loja

    Return to the hotel.
