Cerro Mandango

The hill watching over the Vilcabamba valley, known as the “sleeping Inca” for its profile.

  • En Vilcabamba, 45 km al sur de Loja

Seen from the valley, the profile of Cerro Mandango recalls a face lying down and looking at the sky: that is why it is called the “sleeping Inca”. It is Vilcabamba’s unmistakable silhouette.

Its slopes are a hiking destination for visitors to the valley. Bring water, sunscreen and sturdy shoes, and check the state of the trail before climbing.
