Iglesia Catedral y centro histórico

Loja Cathedral on the Central Park, heart of the historic centre; the Virgin of El Cisne stays here from August to November.

  • 10 minutos

Loja Cathedral, seat of the diocese, presides over the Central Park. The present building dates from 1838 —earlier churches were lost to earthquakes— and was consecrated in 1895.

Every 20 August the image of the Virgin of El Cisne arrives here in procession and stays in the city until 1 November: these are the weeks of greatest devotion in the city.

Around the park are the Museum of Loja Culture and, half a block away, the museum of the Conceptionist Sisters. From the hotel it is about 10 minutes by car.
