Pucará Podocarpus park sits on a hill south of the historic centre, about a kilometre from Independence Square up Olmedo street. It was built on the site of an old water treatment plant.
Its viewpoints offer one of the best views of Loja: the valley, the two rivers that cross it and the mountains around the city. There are also sports courts and a playground.
At sunset the light slants across the rooftops of the centre: bring a jacket, as it gets cool at that hour.
