Colada Morada and Guaguas de Pan

October 20 – November 3

The thick purple-corn and fruit drink Ecuador makes for the Day of the Dead, with its bread “guagua”.

In early November, for the Day of the Dead, Ecuadorian families make colada morada —a thick drink of purple-corn flour, fruit and spices— and serve it with guaguas de pan, sweet breads shaped like little figures. In Loja the tradition is so loved that the city holds an annual colada morada festival.

We serve it in the café during the season, to enjoy at the hotel or take home.
