San Pedro de la Bendita

The village of roscones and bizcochuelos where the story of “El Cardenal” began, first stop of the El Cisne pilgrimage.

  • Cantón Catamayo, en la ruta a El Cisne

San Pedro de la Bendita, a parish of Catamayo canton, is famous for its traditional sweets —roscones and bizcochuelos— and as the first stop of the pilgrimage of the Virgin of El Cisne.

Here, in 1917, Ramón Agustín Ojeda Alvarado began his life as a merchant and musician. He was choirmaster of the village church, and his devotion to the Virgin of El Cisne earned him the nickname “El Cardenal”, which the hotel bears today. With his partners he built the first electric power plant in the south of the country, which ran from 1950 to 1973.

Visiting it means discovering where the story of the house comes from.
